According to the Lexington Herald Leader, a Lexington warehouse, home to an auto-body shop, a roofing business, and a guttering business, was destroyed during a two-alarm fire early Tuesday. At 12:37 am, it was reported that two vehicles were on fire 10 feet from the building. Fire department Chief Marshall Griggs said an employee was working on a car when the fire started.
The man was removing the car's gas tank when the tank began to leak fuel. The gasoline was ignited by a nearby halogen lamp, Griggs said. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had spread to the warehouse. Since no one was inside, firefighters battled the flames from outside rather than risk going inside the building.
Griggs said the fire was being fueled by some of the items within the property, such as wood and books. By 12:55 am, the blaze had grown so large that the fire department called in a second company and asked Kentucky American Water to increase water pressure to fire hydrants in the area, officials report. The blaze was put out by 3 am, and luckily, no injuries were reported.
